US states ranked by worksite-state filing volume. The ranking reflects where H-1B workers actually work, not where the sponsoring employer is incorporated. Top 3 states alone absorb 41% of the program.

Summary

California dominates H-1B worksite filings with 753,475 total filings, accounting for a significant share of all US H-1B sponsorship activity. Texas ranks second with 500,095 filings, and New York third with 308,634 filings. These three states alone represent a majority of all H-1B worksite petitions.

Washington, New Jersey, and Illinois round out the top six, with 223,014, 200,536, and 173,520 filings respectively. Massachusetts, Georgia, and North Carolina follow with 146,870, 141,018, and 137,462 filings. H-1B sponsorship is heavily concentrated in tech hubs, financial centers, and major metropolitan areas.

The remaining top 15 states—Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, Ohio, and Arizona—each filed between 66,443 and 119,432 H-1B worksite petitions. This geographic distribution reflects the location of major employers and industries that rely on skilled immigrant workers.
